The Wild Within

Embracing the Artist in Residence

Every one of us has an inner artist. Something within us that longs to be spoken or expressed.

Maybe your artist is longing to come out in poetry or song, in a short story to share with your grown kids.

Maybe your keen eye and love of photography are ready for an audience, or your life wants to take shape in the pages of a memoir.

Maybe your artist craves a paint brush and canvas, a microphone, or a potter’s wheel.

There is this energy stirring within you, and yet you’ve had all kinds of reasons for not pursuing your artistic dreams:

And there are other voices, too. Voices that say things like:

What’s the point? No one cares.

I’m too old.

I’m not good enough.

I don’t have the discipline.

I’ve already started and stopped so many times. I don’t know how to see it through.

The voice of the critic, the judge, the inner saboteur.

Maybe voices that aren’t even your own. The voice of a stern parent or teacher, people who discouraged you from straying from the known path and expressing your truth.

I’ve worked with hundreds of people from all walks of life who faced seemingly insurmountable creative challenges or blocks. I’ve heard it all.

You’ve been raising kids.

You’ve looked after aging parents.

You’ve paid the bills, and grown your career.

You’ve tended relationships, and let some go.

You haven’t had energy or time.

And it makes sense.

Expressing a part of ourselves that’s been neglected or hidden is vulnerable. Stretching into new terrain takes courage, and healthy risk.

Yes, you might think: what’s the point?

But you might also think: what if I don’t?

What if I live the rest of my life with this part of me unexpressed?

You can feel the shrink of disappointment. The regret.

There are countless ways your artist can show up, and you don’t have to pick just one.

But you do have to commit, not so much to a particular outcome, as to yourself. Take a step forward. Begin.

I’ve created Artist-in-Residence to help you not only begin, but see a creative project through, and do so in good company. Claiming our wild voices, in community.

Effective. Game changing. Good fun.

LOGISTICS

Over six months, we’ll work within a skillfully curated container to claim our wild voices.

We’ll work individually and with the support of a group to awaken or reclaim our inner artist and bring an artistic aspiration to life.

What we do will align with the needs of the group, but you can expect to:

  • Identify the barriers and limiting beliefs that have kept you from creating

  • Choose a single passion project (or elements of a larger project) to bring to life

  • Clarify an achievable project scope within the given timeframe

  • Work with tools and techniques to cultivate and maintain momentum

  • Pair with an accountability buddy for mutual cheerleading and support

  • Launch your project, whether that’s a performance, pushing “publish,” or something else

  • Celebrate!

Give voice to your inner artist, in community.

Each six-month program includes:

  • Weekly group sessions, 6-8 pm PST (online)

  • Monthly in-person group session

  • Two one-on-one sessions with me

Robert Martin is a fabulous coach! He was an immense help to me when I was developing a keynote speech. He helped me get to the core of my message and unlock my creative energy.

His insight allowed me to craft my presentation in my authentic voice in a way I had never been able to do on my own. I strongly recommend Robert, his process and his wisdom to anyone trying to develop their creative side.

I know…you know…you have something to say.

I’m going to venture to guess that underneath your long list of reasons for not being artistic or creative is actually a deep desire to be seen and heard, a desire to tell your story and share this other side of yourself, however that looks.

At the end of our lives we don’t look back and wish we’d worked harder or had more money. Our regrets are around wishing we hadn’t worked so hard, that we’d allowed ourselves to feel more and express ourselves more fully.

Self-expression shouldn’t be a hobby or the privilege of acclaimed artists.

Self-expression is your right, leading to a life of greater fulfillment, connection, and joy.

So if you are:

  • Tired of stalling, regretting, and wondering when or what if…

  • Comforted by the idea of community and accountability, knowing you don’t have to do this work on your own

  • Scared of the vulnerability, but also ready to outcreate your own fear

  • Eager to learn strategies for overcoming overwhelm and negative self-talk

  • Ready to feel more alive and inspired, in all areas of your life

…Artist-in-Residence is for you.

It’s your time. There are start and end dates to the program. You’ll have finished something important by the time we’re done. And the fire gets lit here and now.

Claim your wild voice.
